Paton-Churdan honored its seniors with the annual Senior Mentor Banquet May 12 at the school gym.
This important banquet serves a two-fold purpose. First, each senior chose a mentor to recognize. This is a person who has had a significant influence on their life to date. Secondly, seniors receive their local scholarships and awards. More than $25,000 was awarded to graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary education next fall.
The evening began with a meal catered by Lidderdale Country Store for seniors, their families, mentors and presenters. The meal is co-sponsored by Community State Bank of Paton and United Bank of Iowa/Churdan.
Following the meal, seniors honored their mentor by reading an essay regarding the impact this particular person has had on their life. Interspersed between essays are scholarships and awards. “This is a fun and sometimes emotional evening that really helps to start the closure of a student’s career at Paton-Churdan, school counselor Libby Towers said. “This evening would not be possible if it were not for the families, mentors and community organizations and clubs that support our students through scholarships and sponsorship of this event. Thank you to all,” Towers continued.
